Commemorating the Women and Children of Sean Ross Abbey Mother and Baby Home
A commemorative service will be held on the grounds of the former Sean Ross Abbey Mother and Baby Home in
Roscrea, Tipperary on Sunday, 1 June, beginning at 2 p.m. The purpose of the dignified service is to honour mothers
and children who died while in the care of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary, and who are buried on
the property. While some women and children’s graves are marked by headstones and crosses, many more lay
unmarked on the grounds. The event is supported by Adoption Rights Alliance and The Philomena Project.
The remembrance will include an opening address, readings from now adult children born at Sean Ross and other
mother and baby homes, musical performances, and the laying of flowers and flags representing US states to which
many children born at Sean Ross Abbey were adopted.
The general public are welcome to respectfully participate, and donations of flowers or living plants are also welcome.
Petals Florists in Roscrea are accepting orders of flowers for the event (contact 50522900 or e-mail email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org for orders).
